TCSO as part of the World Music Day

Thessaloniki City Symphony Orchestra as part of the World Music Day is going to celebrate on 20 June 2018 in one of the most characteristic monuments of the city of Thessaloniki, Rotonda, with a baroque music concert. In the first part of the concert, the emblematic work of the great German composer G. Fr. Haendel, Concerto Grosso no. 9 in F major is going to be presented.
In the second part, the orchestra will have the pleasure of joining the Anatolia College of Alumni Association for a performance of the wonderful religious work of the Italian composer A. Vivaldi Gloria, a work that is perhaps his most popular choral composition written in the early 18th century.
The orchestra will be conducted by the permanent orchestra conductor of the TSCO Haris Iliades and the soloists of the evening will be Romanian soprano Diana Tugui and Mirouslava Yordanova from Bulgaria. Gianna Athanasiadou has the direction and teaching of the Anatolia College Chorus.

DIANA TUGUI                    


Romanian soprano Diana Tugui is a graduate of the National University of Music at Bucharest, a soloist at the Elena Teodorini Lyric Theater, and a collaborator with many opera houses and philharmonics around the world. Besides her fascination with opera and operetta repertoire where she already had the opportunity to interpret the psychology of more than 15 main heroines (Pamina, Konstanze, Susanna, Liù, Musetta, Michaela, Gilda, Violetta Valéry, Nanetta, Norina, Lucia, Adela, Fiametta, Valencienne) she is always willing to address more challenging and difficult vocal – symphonic repertoires.
Season 2012-2013 starts with her debut in Il Barbiere di Siviglia. She will be performing also in Die Fladermaus, Carmen, debuting with the musical Good Evening Mr. Wilde, La Boheme, Don Pasquale, Die Lustige Witwe, Im Weissen Rossl, La Traviata, Lucia di Lamermoor, and more to come.
 For the 2011-2012 season, soprano Diana Tugui makes her celebrated return to the Camerata Sant Cugat, where she performs arias from Manon and La Boheme in an unforgettable concert recital at the Theater Auditorium, a charity concert to benefit the Jose Carreras Leukemia Foundation. She is present at the Opening Night Gala Concert at Elena Teodorini Lyric Theater, and starts her second year collaboration with Ion Dacian Opereta Theater in Bucharest in the performance Die Fledermaus. In December 2011 she is a guest soloist at the Viennese Christmas Gala Event at The Palace Hall in Bucharest where she performs with the European Royal Orchestra and the special guests the Ukrainian composer and violinist Edwin Morton and conductor Gottfried Rabl.
 Additional engagements with the Elena Teodorini Lyric Theater includes performances in La Traviata with tenor Marius Zaharia, and The Merry Widow. As a continuous collaboration with the Oltenia Philharmonic she performs in the vocal symphonic concert together with baritone Sandor Balla and conductor Marius Hristescu in the closing night gala.
 Season 2010-2011 is a challenging and full of accolades for Diana. She participates at the prestigious Wilhelm Stenhammar International Voice Competition in Sweden where she is awarded fourth prize and performs with the Norrkoping Symphony Orchestra led by guest conductor Nader Abbassi, artistic director and principal conductor of the Cairo Opera Orchestra. The final round of the competition drew an audience of over 800 and as a winner of the competition she receives the invitation to perform at galas at Katara Opera House in Doha, Qatar and at Cairo and Alexandria Opera Houses in Egypt. She debuts at Katara Cultural Village Opera House in a recital concert with Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra in their first concert of the year 2011.
 She continues to improve her vocal technique by attending the International Masterclass held by famous mezzo soprano Viorica Cortez at the Moulin d’Ande, France. She takes private lessons with Viorica Cortez and the amazing opportunity to sing in duet with her at the Theater with Maxime Neyret as a pianist. The Merry Widow, Falstaff and Die Fledermaus are just few engagements with the Elena Teodorini Lyric Theater in season 2010-2011.
 The season is ending with its 6th run of the summer open air regale of classical music at Bucharest Music Film Festival where she performs arias and duets from well known operas and operettas with tenor Hector Lopez and conductor Emil Siegbert Maxim.
 In November 2009 she performs with the Philharmonic Oltenia in a Mozart Concert in Nattheim City, Germany and then she is invited as a guest singer for the charity concert organized by the Prison Fellowship Romania, a concert aimed to help the street children of Romania. In 2008 she debuts in The Man of La Mancha on the National Theater stage in Craiova and Bucharest for the Art Festival with the extraordinary participation of the actor Tudor Gheorghe. Also she debuts in the suite Peer Gynt with actor Florin Piersic and starts her collaboration with tenor Costel Busuioc in a grand Christmas Carols Concert tour of Romania. In 2008 she participates at the 5th edition of the Jaume Aragall International Singing Competition in Spain where she is awarded third prize and as a finalist she receives a masterclass with Mr. Jaume Aragall. At the gala she has a magnificent performance at Camerata Sant Cugat where she thrills the audience with her interpretation that responded with a long standing ovation.
 In 2007 she is a finalist of the Renata Tebaldi International Voice Competition, Republic of San Marino. In the same year to improve her vocal techniques she works with remarkable names in the opera music industry and takes master-classes with Teresa Berganza in Spain, Dalton Baldwin in Italy and Viorica Cortez in France. In 2006 she is awarded Jean Bobescu prize as an acknowledgement of her artistic achievements and along with her tenure as a leading soloist at the Elena Teodorini Lyric Theater, she starts her second career as an Assistant Professor, teaching music at the University of Craiova, Department of Music.
 Throughout her career she worked with the following stage directors: Kersstin Jacobsen, Tamas Ferky, Arabela Tănase, Migry Avram Nicolau, Răzvan Dincă, Günter Mayr, Giuseppe Visciglia, and the following conductors: Alexandru Iosub, Florian-George Zamfir, Pier Giorgio Calabria, Misha Katz, Marius Hristescu, Ralf Schüssler, Sabin Pautza, Koichi Inoue, Emil Maxim, Florentin Mihăescu, Andrey Alexeev, Lucian Vlădescu, Leonard Dumitriu, Daniel Antoli, Nader Abassi, Gheorghe Stanciu, Massimo Testa, Constantin Petrovici, Octav Kalleya, Massimo Gualtieri.



MIROUSLAVA YORDANOVA

Praised by critics for her even, lustrous tone, vocal flexibility and stage presence, Mirouslava Yordanova embraces a wide variety of repertoire from baroque to contemporary music.She has been invited to work with companies such as the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Opera National de Paris, Monte Carlo Opera, Ópera de Tenerife, Sofia National Opera, Timisoara and Cluj Opera houses. She also sang with the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, with Maastricht Chamber Orchestra, Sofia Philharmonic, at the Dordrech Belcanto Festival, the Tenerife Opera Festival, the Immling Festival, Festival Lirico in Florence, the Timisoara Opera Festival, and has been a regular guest at the Buxton Festival in England.As well as opera performances Ms. Yordanova is equally at home on the concert platform, giving recitals throughout Europe. Some of them particularly devoted to the songs of Pauline Viardot, the famous 19th century diva and composer. Her concert appearances have included Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, Haydn’s Stabat Mater, Liszt’s Via Crucis, Beethoven 9th Symphony and Verdi’s Requiem (televised by the BBC).Bulgarian-British mezzosoprano was born in Sofia, Bulgaria and now lives in Great Britain. She began her musical training as a pianist and went on to study singing at the National School of Music in Sofia. After graduating with distinction her training continued at the State Academy of Music after which she was immediately engaged as a principal soloist at the Sofia National Opera.A prize-winner in several major competitions in Bulgaria and also at the “Riccardo Zandonai” competition in Italy, Mirouslava Yordanova represented Bulgaria in the prestigious BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition.Some recent and future highlights are Carmen, Eboli and Beethoven 9th Symphony in Bulgaria , Verdi Requiem at Jaén Cathedral in Spain and the title role of “Carmen” at the 25th DomStufen Festspiele 2018 in Erfurt, Germany.Her discography include two CDs featuring rare cantatas by G.B. Sammartini recorded for the NAXOS label.

HARIS ILIADIS


Haris Iliadis was born in September the 10th 1972 in Thessaloniki, Greece. He studied piano, harmony and counterpoint at the „New Conservatory-Thessaloniki“ and since October 1993 he conducting at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Art „Mozarteum“ in Salzburg, Austria in the classes of Michael Gielen and Denis Russel Davis, where he obtained the Diploma in conducting (Magister Artium) in June 1997.
In 1994 he was awarded the „Special Prize for young conductors of the Debrecen Phinharmonic Orchestra“(voted by the musicians of the orchestra).
Until now he has performed as guest conductor with numerous orchestras in Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Germany, Austria, Italy, the Ukraine and Israel.
He is the Principal Conductor and Artistic Director at the City of Thessaloniki Symphony Orchestra since August 2001 and throughout his career he has worked with distinguished soloists like Cheryl Studer, Paul Badura – Skoda, Kostas Kotsiolis, Dimitris Sgouros, various soloists of the National Opera – House etc.






THESSALONIKI CITY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA


The TCSO was founded in 1987.  The orchestra’s first artistic director was Kosmas Galileas.  The artistic direction and the coordination were subsequently undertaken by conductor Dimitris Agrafiotis and Byron Fidetzis and cellist Christos Gribas.  The TCSO consists of acclaimed musicians and is actively involved in the city’s musical events through its participation in educational concerts, international competitions, co-productions with renowned artists and other orchestras, and festivals.  Aside from its work in the city the orchestra also performs concerts all over Greece and has been abroad, as well.  Throughout the years of its existence the TCSO has had the pleasure and the honor to host great soloists and conductors such as:  D. Sgouros, G. Demertzis, L. Kavakos, M. Tirimos, G. Vakarelis, G. Lazaridis, S. Katsaris, V. Repin, and L. Oistrach, among others.  The orchestra has appeared at the Athens Concert Hall, the Lycabettus Theater, as well as numerous cities around Greece (Veria, Larisa, Naoussa, Mesolongi, Drama, Igoumenitsa, Kavala, Serres, Volos, Preveza, Kastoria, and Corfu , to name a few) and outside of Greece at the Ancient Theater of Ephesus and in Cyprus.  The TCSO has performed in numerous operas and ballet and it has made recordings of Vivaldi’s ‘’The Four Seasons’’ with soloist L. Kavakos and maestro Kosmas Galileas and Haydn’s ‘’The Creation’’ under the direction of Byron Fidetzis in the year 2000.  From 2001 and through today the position of permanent conductor is held by Haris Iliadis.  The role of artistic coordinator for the orchestra has been taken over by conductor Liza Xanthopoulou as of April 2018.
