City Symphony Orchestra as part of the World Music Day is going to celebrate on
20 June 2018 in one of the most characteristic monuments of the city of
Thessaloniki, Rotonda, with a baroque music concert. In the first part of the
concert, the emblematic work of the great German composer G. Fr. Haendel, Concerto
Grosso no. 9 in F major is going to be presented.
In the second
part, the orchestra will have the pleasure of joining the Anatolia College of
Alumni Association for a performance of the wonderful religious work of the
Italian composer A. Vivaldi Gloria, a work that is perhaps his most popular
choral composition written in the early 18th century.
The orchestra
will be conducted by the permanent orchestra conductor of the TSCO Haris Iliades
and the soloists of the evening will be Romanian soprano Diana Tugui and
Mirouslava Yordanova from Bulgaria. Gianna Athanasiadou has the direction and
teaching of the Anatolia College Chorus.
Entrance to the
concert is free.

DIANA TUGUI
Romanian soprano Diana Tugui is a
graduate of the National University of Music at Bucharest, a soloist at the
Elena Teodorini Lyric Theater, and a collaborator with many opera houses and
philharmonics around the world. Besides her fascination with opera and operetta
repertoire where she already had the opportunity to interpret the psychology of
more than 15 main heroines (Pamina, Konstanze, Susanna, Liù, Musetta, Michaela,
Gilda, Violetta Valéry, Nanetta, Norina, Lucia, Adela, Fiametta, Valencienne)
she is always willing to address more challenging and difficult vocal –
symphonic repertoires.
Season 2012-2013 starts with her
debut in Il Barbiere di Siviglia. She will be performing also in Die
Fladermaus, Carmen, debuting with the musical Good Evening Mr. Wilde, La
Boheme, Don Pasquale, Die Lustige Witwe, Im Weissen Rossl, La Traviata, Lucia
di Lamermoor, and more to come.
MIROUSLAVA YORDANOVA
Praised by
critics for her even, lustrous tone, vocal flexibility and stage presence,
Mirouslava Yordanova embraces a wide variety of repertoire from baroque to
contemporary music.She has been invited to work with companies such as the
Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Opera National de Paris, Monte Carlo Opera,
Ópera de Tenerife, Sofia National Opera, Timisoara and Cluj Opera houses. She
also sang with the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, with Maastricht Chamber Orchestra,
Sofia Philharmonic, at the Dordrech Belcanto Festival, the Tenerife Opera
Festival, the Immling Festival, Festival Lirico in Florence, the Timisoara
Opera Festival, and has been a regular guest at the Buxton Festival in
England.As well as opera performances Ms. Yordanova is equally at home on the
concert platform, giving recitals throughout Europe. Some of them particularly
devoted to the songs of Pauline Viardot, the famous 19th century diva and
composer. Her concert appearances have included Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater,
Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, Haydn’s Stabat Mater, Liszt’s Via Crucis,
Beethoven 9th Symphony and Verdi’s Requiem (televised by the
BBC).Bulgarian-British mezzosoprano was born in Sofia, Bulgaria and now lives
in Great Britain. She began her musical training as a pianist and went on to
study singing at the National School of Music in Sofia. After graduating with
distinction her training continued at the State Academy of Music after which
she was immediately engaged as a principal soloist at the Sofia National
Opera.A prize-winner in several major competitions in Bulgaria and also at the
“Riccardo Zandonai” competition in Italy, Mirouslava Yordanova represented
Bulgaria in the prestigious BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition.Some
recent and future highlights are Carmen, Eboli and Beethoven 9th Symphony in
Bulgaria , Verdi Requiem at Jaén Cathedral in Spain and the title role of
“Carmen” at the 25th DomStufen Festspiele 2018 in Erfurt, Germany.Her
discography include two CDs featuring rare cantatas by G.B. Sammartini recorded
for the NAXOS label.
HARIS ILIADIS
Haris Iliadis was born in September the 10th 1972 in Thessaloniki, Greece. He studied piano, harmony and counterpoint at the „New Conservatory-Thessaloniki“ and since October 1993 he conducting at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Art „Mozarteum“ in Salzburg, Austria in the classes of Michael Gielen and Denis Russel Davis, where he obtained the Diploma in conducting (Magister Artium) in June 1997.

In 1994 he was awarded the „Special
Prize for young conductors of the Debrecen Phinharmonic Orchestra“(voted by the
musicians of the orchestra).
Until now he has performed as guest
conductor with numerous orchestras in Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Germany,
Austria, Italy, the Ukraine and Israel.
He is the Principal Conductor and
Artistic Director at the City of Thessaloniki Symphony Orchestra since August
2001 and throughout his career he has worked with distinguished soloists like
Cheryl Studer, Paul Badura – Skoda, Kostas Kotsiolis, Dimitris Sgouros, various
soloists of the National Opera – House etc.
THESSALONIKI CITY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
The TCSO
was founded in 1987. The orchestra’s
first artistic director was Kosmas Galileas.
The artistic direction and the coordination were subsequently undertaken
by conductor Dimitris Agrafiotis and Byron Fidetzis and cellist Christos
Gribas. The TCSO consists of acclaimed
musicians and is actively involved in the city’s musical events through its
participation in educational concerts, international competitions,
co-productions with renowned artists and other orchestras, and festivals. Aside from its work in the city the orchestra
also performs concerts all over Greece and has been abroad, as well. Throughout the years of its existence the
TCSO has had the pleasure and the honor to host great soloists and conductors
such as: D. Sgouros, G. Demertzis, L.
Kavakos, M. Tirimos, G. Vakarelis, G. Lazaridis, S. Katsaris, V. Repin, and L.
Oistrach, among others. The orchestra
has appeared at the Athens Concert Hall, the Lycabettus Theater, as well as
numerous cities around Greece (Veria, Larisa, Naoussa, Mesolongi, Drama,
Igoumenitsa, Kavala, Serres, Volos, Preveza, Kastoria, and Corfu , to name a
few) and outside of Greece at the Ancient Theater of Ephesus and in
Cyprus. The TCSO has performed in
numerous operas and ballet and it has made recordings of Vivaldi’s ‘’The Four
Seasons’’ with soloist L. Kavakos and maestro Kosmas Galileas and Haydn’s ‘’The
Creation’’ under the direction of Byron Fidetzis in the year 2000. From 2001 and through today the position of
permanent conductor is held by Haris Iliadis.
The role of artistic coordinator for the orchestra has been taken over by
conductor Liza Xanthopoulou as of April 2018.
